Day 4 - 8-3-21 - Mackinac Island

Today we head East. The first day was West. Second day was North so today, off to the Island and we are taking our bikes. We are going to try to ride around the island. Oh yeah, I'm pulling the dog in a child carrier. This should be fun. So it took us about an hour to get over to St Ignace to get on the Ferry. We compared the cost of renting to the cost of paying for our bikes to go to the island and it was cheaper for us to just bring our bikes. Since we had a little WIFI, Dawn had to do a little work real quick before we got on the boat.
Logan enjoyed the Ferry ride over. They took us on an extended trip under the Mackinac Bridge and then over to the island. Pretty cool.
Got to the island, got our bikes, parked our bikes and ate some lunch. Then we headed up to the fort. Logan wanted to check it out. I forget what we paid, but you have to pay an entrance fee to tour the fort.
While we were touring the fort they said they were going to fire one of the canons. So we HAD to do that!! It was pretty cool to hear about. The canon's they said could hit the island you see in the center of the above picture so they shoot quite a ways. However, they are not very accurate. Maybe 1 in 3 will hit.
Ok, now we are off to try to bike around the Island!! WOOHOOO!! Logan was SOOOOOO excited!!! NOT! All he wanted was fudge.
Yeah the dog wasn't so excited about this. We had to zipper him in because he wanted to jump out. Finally we are off!!
We didn't quite make it all the way around. The dog was howling in his cart and people were making comments. Nothing bad. It wasn't easy pulling an 85 pound dog in that cart even on a flat paved trail. This certainly changes our plans for later in the week where we were going to bike Grand Island which is dirt trails. Yeah, that's not going to work!! We made it up to the British Landing and a lady said the trail was closed ahead. You could either go up the hill and cut across....yeah up the hill.....or turn around and go back the way you came. You guessed it!!! We are turning around!!!
Time to catch the ferry back and head back to camp. Just as we got back to St Ignace we decided to get some pizza and it started to sprinkle. Because we had the dog we had to order to go and eat outside. The pizza was GREAT!!
